Work is underway with Edna Adan University Hospital to establish a HALO Centre supporting structured IV cannulation, IV line, venepuncture, phlebotomy training.

The programme began with an initial meeting and a small planned cohort of 10 learners. Delivery quickly expanded, with over 20 participants in the first phase and now reaching approximately 100 clinicians as part of ongoing development.  

Ready for Phase 3 Go Live with Sarah Phillips travelling to Somaliland in Summer. Sarah spent the day with Dr Edna in London at Global Health Partnership Summit (THET) where we agreed next steps and approval to scale with ambitions to acheive Platinum Centre within the year!

Training has included:

• opening and launch activity
• live teaching and simulation-based practice
• evaluation and feedbac\
• closing and consolidation of learning

Local leadership has been central, with delivery led in Somaliland by Yasma Osman, supported by VeinTrain and partners including Dahabshiil Bank International and Airglove Medical.

The partnership has continued to develop through shared planning, including time together at a Global Health summit, with Phase 2 now approved.

The next phase will focus on:

• extending delivery further across Somaliland
• strengthening local trainer capacity
• integrating online learning and UK-based support
• preparing for in-country development later this year

Welcome to the VeinTrain Members Room for Edna Adan University Hospital.

This programme has been designed to international clinical standards, and we are committed to working in genuine partnership with your team - adapting content over time to reflect the realities and priorities of healthcare delivery in Somaliland.  Dr Edna Adan Ismail has now approved Phase 2!

Phase 2 - Using the same model we plan to reach all of the clinicians including students and reach out into Somaliland.  Sarah will visit in early summer so we can accelerate the centre to become a Platinum Halo Centre.  We know it can be from what we have seen of the leadership so we are thrilled to come over and Sarah looks forward to being Dr Edna's guest.

 
What you have access to here is a complete, standalone training programme, enhanced with LIVE sessions to support your learning journey. As our partnership develops, we will transition those live elements into flexible, asynchronous online content - including specialist modules on paediatric and neonatal blood taking, alongside language adaptations tailored to your context. This development work is subject to funding, and we are actively working to secure that.
