Sarah Phillips MA, BA, DipN

CEO & Transformation Director, VeinTrain Ltd
Organisation Consultant | Systems Leader | Author | Educator

Sarah Phillips is the founder and CEO of VeinTrain Ltd, a clinical education leader and transformation specialist with over 30 years in health and care. A trained nurse and published author, Sarah is nationally and internationally recognised for her contributions to improving clinical competency—especially in venepuncture and cannulation.

Sarah began her career in emergency nursing before taking on leadership roles in clinical education. She was instrumental in establishing the UK’s first clinical simulation labs and led multi-professional practice education from within corporate nursing at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust. These early innovations laid the foundation for what would become VeinTrain—a global training provider known for high-quality, accessible, and standardised clinical skills education.

From 2022 to 2024, Sarah served as the Talent and Leadership Subject Matter Expert for the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care System, co-developing strategy and leading transformational programmes through co-design and collaboration. Her work helped shape the system-wide leadership and talent agenda, including pioneering work on ICS Innovation Challenges.

In addition to her executive leadership at VeinTrain, Sarah is the founder of Prism Insight, where she delivers systems-psychodynamic consulting to leaders, boards, and teams, drawing on her MA in Organisation Consultancy from the Tavistock. She has also worked as a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Facilitator at the University of Nottingham Medical School, supporting future doctors to develop critical clinical thinking and teamwork skills.

Her passion for quality and transformation was recently recognised when she was:

  • Quoted as a clinical expert in Nursing Standard (May 2025) on cannulation best practices.
  • Invited to attend the Royal Garden Party in May 2025 for her decades-long contributions to healthcare education.

Sarah continues to combine her clinical insight, strategic leadership, and passion for improvement to equip the workforce of today and shape the systems of tomorrow. She leads on large contracts for system transformation and training design to adapt the Halo Programme to suit each organisation/country/project the best.
