When a clinical product changes across an organisation, the real work starts after the decision: evaluating the product, preparing trainers, building practical skills, supporting teams during the switch, and keeping the new practice safe once the attention moves on. VeinTrain provides the implementation infrastructure around that change.

A framework award changes the contract. It does not change clinical practice.

Watch first

Don’t just switch the device.

30-second film. Staff-time figures are a modelled example; your figures will differ.

A change of cannula across an NHS organisation is also a change for people, practice, off-duty time, supervision and assurance. This short film shows why the product switch is the easy part, and what it takes to build the system around it.

VeinTrain supports learning and evidence of training. Competency sign-off stays with your organisation.

Understand

On 22 September 2026 NHS Supply Chain published ICN 3485, confirming a new Intravenous Cannula and Associated Products framework from 1 April 2027. The current framework runs until 31 March 2027.

A practical pathway for the switch:

  1. Map the people, sites, shifts and local policies affected.
  2. Use NHS Supply Chain clinical-choice information, manufacturer instructions and local clinical review to define the update.
  3. Familiarise educators and practitioners with the selected configuration and connected components.
  4. Rehearse handling in simulation before supervised clinical use.
  5. Keep product familiarisation, supervised practice and employer competency sign-off distinct.
  6. Track reach, feedback, incidents, stock use and repeat support, then adapt.

The proposition

VeinTrain is not only a training provider. We provide the structured infrastructure that turns a product or practice change into governed, repeatable, locally owned capability. The principle is simple: scale the architecture, not the mileage.

Before the change

Clinical engagement, product evaluation and trainer preparation, so the choice is understood before it reaches the ward.

During the change

Reusable simulation, digital learning, Train the Trainer and live support, so skills are built and supervised, not assumed.

After the change

Local implementation, troubleshooting and sustained adoption, so the new practice holds once the launch is over.

What the organisation still owns

Training supports a structured route to competence. Competency is completed in clinical practice, using the learner's local workplace process. A VeinTrain certificate evidences training or programme completion; final clinical competency sign-off remains with the employer, supervisor or clinical organisation, within local policy and scope of practice. We support that process; we do not replace it.

Where this matters now

A framework or procurement change increases supplier and product choice, but the clinical transition, product evaluation, sampling, familiarisation, education and local assurance still have to be delivered team by team. That is an implementation challenge as much as a supply one.

This page describes VeinTrain's implementation-support approach in general terms. It does not name a specific supplier, product, price or contractual arrangement, and it makes no claim about any particular procurement outcome. Specific scope, quantities and terms are agreed separately.
