Start with the local need

Identify the learners, the delivery setting and the people who will support the pathway. Make the practical requirements and responsibilities clear before deciding how much activity to take on.

Use live support where it adds value

Initial setup, mentoring, difficult implementation questions and review may benefit from direct support. Routine delivery can become more locally led as readiness is evidenced and the agreed responsibilities allow.

Plan the continuing resources

A sustainable plan needs realistic capacity, resource and support assumptions. Clarify the agreed learning access, practical materials, review arrangements and any continuing costs. The right balance will differ between settings.

Review before increasing delivery

Use experience from the first stage to decide what is working and what needs adjustment. Self-sustainability is a direction to work towards, not a guaranteed financial outcome or an automatic result of purchasing resources.
