New Training Title Aims to Ensure Venepuncture Competence Across the UK

A new publication aims to equip healthcare practitioners with essential venepuncture and cannulation expertise, helping to standardise these procedures across all healthcare professions.

Venepuncture and Cannulation (Essential Clinical Skills for Nurses) by Sarah Phillips, Mary Collins and Lisa Dougherty (RRP £27.99) provides a clear and comprehensive overview of theory and practice. It integrates competent technique with patient experience throughout.

As the most commonly performed invasive procedures in the UK, the authors designed the book to support practitioners who are learning these skills for the first time, as well as those updating their knowledge. The book has been welcomed by Professor Lord Darzi, who described it as an:

"Example of how the NHS remains at the forefront of pioneering clinical practice development in healthcare worldwide."

In his foreword, Professor Darzi highlights the need for consistent practice:
