Marcia describes in her article: 'Hospital onset bacterial surveillance is coming, rates are higher in peripheral IVs than in Central and dialysis ...Infections picked up days after cannula removed so not attributed to the device..... 12 million dis-lodgements, 35 million infiltrations/extravasations.' Thanks Timothy R. Spencer for his tweet and noting the lack of attention given to these devices. I am pleased to see the increase in interest and work, research especially after being immersed in veins in NHS, writing, leading competency change and now training for around 20 years.  We need to do better,  and to do this we need to change the way we do it.

I hope, with our virtual world we can collaborate globally and use what has worked well in different parts of the globe and change this. We were thrilled to get veins in front of 2200 global healthcare leaders, at WISH, Qatar, who have the budgets to bring about change. There was tremendous interest with genuine surprise at the situation.
